Daytime Running Lights

Some people like them, some people hate them.

Thanks to Glen Murdock

To temporarily deactivate DRL’s, simply remove the fuse from the under hood fuse box (See Fig. 1).

WARNING:

DAYTIME RUNNING LAMPS CONTROL GETS VERY HOT DURING OPERATION. BE SURE DAYTIME RUNNING LAMPS CONTROL HAS COOLED BEFORE HANDLING IT OR PERSONAL INJURY MAY OCCUR.

To permanently remove them from your car you must first obtain a jumper plug, which replaces the DRL module. If you unplug the DRL module and don’t replace the jumper you’ll have no headlights. The jumper plug can be found in a junkyard on any Ford made after 1990 W/O DRL’s. I don’t know if it can be bought from a Ford dealer. The connector is located in the left front wheel well, in front of the tire (See Fig. 2). On a Gen 3 SHO, it is in front of the saxicone and above the air inlet.

The part # for the module is F43Z-15A272-A. It cost approx. $40.00. To add DRL’s to your car, remove the left front wheel and the front inner fender liner. The harness is clipped to brace near the saxicone inlet (See Fig 2). Pry it loose, remove the jumper and store it in a safe place, attach the DRL module to the brace with one or two screws. The replacement DRL module does not have the bracket shown in the picture and it is not available as far as I know. Plug the module in and check to see that a fuse is in the under-hood fuse box (See Fig. 1).
