Joseph Hall - Cam Failure #249

4/28/03

Hello,
I have a noise that sounds like a diesel engine. My car is at the Ford Dealership now and they say it is the cam sprockets.

Thanks for your vigilance and efforts,

Joe Hall

Timothy,
Sorry for not getting your call.
VIN# 1FALP54NXVA244449
mileage 64,473

The engine is OK and running. I just learned (my fault for not keeping up with it) that my FORD ESP expired on 4-24-03. I took the car in on 4-26-03....the dealer said that they and anyone they called could not help. I called FORD Customer Assistance and they declined to help even though I was out of time by 2 days and under the mileage by 10,500 miles. I properly serviced the car and only took it to FORD Dealers for service.

From Dealer ( Star Ford at Oxmoor - 100 Oxmoor Lane - Louisville, KY 40222) :
Repair Order/Invoice #288734 dated 4-28-03,

64473 C N/C VERIFIED NOISE FROM ENGINE, CONCERN MAY BE RELATED TO CAM GEAR MALFUNCTION, CUSTOMER DECLINED TEARDOWN TO EXPLORE AND CONFIRM MALFUNCTION. NOTE ENGINE FAILURE WILL OCCUR IF CONCERN IS NOT REPAIRED.
****************************************
Dealer wanted $350 to teardown and reassemble, but guessed based on past experience that the repair would be about $2000.

I am planning to ship or tow vehicle to FPS in Douglasville, GA to have the sprockets welded.

Thanks again. Sincerely,
Joe Hall
