Misc Cam Failure - #513

New 2/24/04

I was with my dad on the truck this past weekend. We had to pick up a load of Jettas from an auto auction in Chicago. While we were shuttling the cars out to the truck I spotted a SHO. Then I noticed the writing on the windshield: "Bad engine" So I grabbed a piece of paper and jotted down the VIN: 1FALP54N9VA241140 and the mileage: 90816. The SHO was silver with grey leather interior. The intake had the runners removed. the MAF was laying loose in the engine along with the surge tank. the runners were in the back seat on the floor behind the front passenger seat. It had Illinois Plates. And it had a Feb 1997 build date I believe, at least that was the number by the VIN on the drivers door. If this one has already been documented then I apologize for wasting anyone's time. If not I hope this information is helpful in some way. I do not know where the car was headed from the auction or who the purchaser was. But from my understanding in order to purchase a car from these auto auctions you must have a dealers license, if that helps any. Anyways thought I'd give you guys a heads up.

Ben
