Superchip Update

Hi,

I am not very proficient with the e-mail and website stuff, but did want to let folks know about a possible issue with ordering the correct Superchip.

I have a 1996 SHO that I bought used a couple of months ago. I ordered a chip for my computer code (JJK2). when I installed the chip, the car would not start. When I removed the chip, it started right up and ran fine. I called Superchips and when the tech advisor looked up my year and model, he told me there had been a factory reflash or recalibration of the computer at some point. When that was done, the dealer who did it was supposed to put a sticker under the hood with the new code handwritten on it. It was not there on mine. that could mean the dealer didn't put the sticker on or the prior owner didn't have the recalibration done (which would not explain why it didn't work if that had been the case). I had to spend $80 to have my computer read to get the new PCM code so i could send the chip back to Superchips to have it reprogrammed. When I called Superchips and told them what the code was, the technician told me it was now equivalent to an SMM0 code (or something like that). It will be a 13-digit code that always has 12A650 in the middle...that is the base code. mine, for instance, was F6PF-12A650-ESA.

The moral of the story is that SHO owners should first look for the sticker under the hood on the radiator support. After that, call the technical support line to see if there was a recalibration before you order your chip so you can be sure to get the correct chip.

The up side, if you can call it that, is that in downloading the code I learned I need a new IMRC deactivation motor. Essentially, it opens a valve allowing more air to flow to the engine during heavy acceleration. There was no check engine light to indicate a problem. I would have never known had I not had to do all this for the chip. So I should see better performance for that reason in addition to the chip. of course, the downside is the $$, but I think it will be worth it.

Thanks for your time and effort,

Bobby Tucker
