V8SHO News - 1

new 7/30/01

Now that I can make changes to FAQ again I posted about a dozen new articles I had saved up.

See http://www.v8sho.com/SHO/changes.html

Special thanks to Mike Ivy for solving this technical issue.

Special thanks to one and all for supporting us during this time.

new topics,

1) Mike told me we have been off of Purdue for almost a year and FAQ could use more disk space and band width. I recommended we do again what we did last year, solicit voluntary contributions form v8sho list.. It is renewal time with FAQ's site provider.

If you value V8 FAQ, and loath banners we need to send $20 to Mike Ivy so he does not pay for the FAQ out of his own pocket. If you can't send $20, at least send $10. Anything left over will go to next year. As always Mike & I do this for free, for the love of the cars and others in the club. Last year I think we had less than a dozen folks step up to the plate. That is shameful. We have 400 folks on the directory and average unique 500-600 sessions a day.

Mike we need an address to send checks & money to. (see below)

As in the past anyone who contributes will get their name on the special page of supporters. Gang, we are the whole car club, if we don't support FAQ no one else will. I don't want to have banners or sponsors. That leaves us free to call it like it is and be beholding to nobody.

2) I just got a video capture card and considering capturing the SHO Promo & technical videos to a web format. It would require more band width and disk space. Is this a good use of or resources?

It is worth it to see a Ford spokesperson explain how the two stage intake helps performance up to the national 55 mph speed limit so you can pass better. Y'all don't ever drive OVER 55 do ya?

3) I have had comments that FAQ is disorganized and it is difficult to find things. Is this true? If it is true can any one recommend a better structure to hang thing on?

4) Toot my own horn, a year ago I started thinking where SHOs are most competitive. We have a very high specific output per displacement and a low Cd. Bonneville is the obvious place to go except the salt eats cars. I wrote something technical for Don at the SHO Club and accidentally leaked it to SHO Tech list. Ranson read it ( I contributed no money or knuckles) and went out and got 2-3 East coast timing assoc world records in his SHO. The only credit/blame I can take is I nudged Ranson. He did all the work, paid all the bills and gets all the glory. (he did have a sponsorship from SHO Club)

But it is good reading, so if you don't belong to SHO Club yet, join ASAP so you can get this next issue and read all about Ranson and his world records. it's what we dream about. how fast can a SHO go?

address for SHO Club is www.shoclub.com Go there, join/subscribe.

Thanks for your time,

Buford

First I want to thank Mike Holhut, Tim Wright and of course the Big Dog himself. If it weren't for these folks none of us would be here reading this email. It is true that soon we will need to renew our service for web hosting. Last year we raised enough funds to cover the site from contributions from individuals on the list. I would like to again solicit the help from those of you who can send a check to keep us sponsor free and independent as a voice of the owner's of V8SHOs. The hosting fee will be $25 per month to keep us going while doubling our disk-space and tripling out bandwidth. For several months we have had a gnat's rear end from 200,000 hits on the site. This takes bandwidth. We have exceeded our allotted bandwidth every month. It is imperative that we increase our capacity. I have a new digital camera and digital video camera so now we can add video to our "How-tos." If you can sponsor a month great...if you can only swing $10 great.

Think of it this way...how much time, effort and money has this list and the site saved you?

Thanks guys,
Mike
