Please read all details...
Up for auction is our 1998 Ford Taurus SHO. The engine needs replaced likely due to the camshaft failure that can be common with these models. It does start, but it runs very rough and is not really driveable. Maybe enough to get it onto a trailer. We bought the car about 1 1/2 years ago as a third car to have around. We drive a lot, so I wanted to keep the miles down on our other 2 cars. We've had to complete some repairs/maintenance including a new coolant reservoir, flex pipe on exhaust, transmission service, speed sensor, front valve cover gasket and new brakes front and rear. The SHO was running fine until a few days ago when we noticed a ticking coming from the rear of the engine. It wasn't too loud, so I had planned on taking it to the shop soon to have it checked out. Today on the interstate it began to run very rough and died. We were only 5 miles from home, so I was able to start it again and limp it home. I did some research online, and I am positive this is the cam issue common with the 3.4 V8 SHOs. I am not a mechanic, but that is my best guess at this point. The transmission shifts well, and definitely could be put into another SHO. The body is ok, but it does have some rust around the sunroof and the windshield. No leaks at all. The interior is in ok condition with some wear on the carpet and on the driver's seat. The A/C compressor works, but it has a leaking hose on the passenger side of the engine compartment that I have not replaced yet. All windows and locks work. Cruise does not work. This could be a good parts car, or if you have access to a good 3.4 liter engine it could get right back on the road. It has a clear title, and I have title in hand. The car is located in LeClaire, IA, just outside the Quad Cities. A buyer would have to pick up the car at my house. If you have any questions, please feel free to send me a message or call me at 563-940-0579. If I don't answer, please leave a message so I can call you back. Thank you.
