Subject: Prior cam failure?
Date: Sat, 15 Nov 2008 18:03:53 -0700
Ford dealer sales manager sent a couple to see me mid week. They went to dealer
to check out a noise on a 97 SF, VIN 1FALP54N0VA132582, recently picked up at an
auction. Sounded like a cam failing along with an additional knocking sound.
Pulled the covers today. Front intake has two welds and others have one each.
If this sprocket would have been spaced properly and given three welds, I
believe it would have survived. The sprocket is sloppy on the shaft now. Why
can't mechanic wannabes follow the web instructions? I'll try to replace this
cam without pulling the chain cover. Lucien
