2003 Police Interceptor Update

new 7/24/03

Gone are the police Camaro, police Volvo and police Cherokee. If you see any either they are dressed up civilian versions or old stock.

As of 2003 the police packages are Hummer HMCS, Impala, Tahoe, Dodge Intrepid, Ford Police Interceptor and Ford Expedition.

Shame on the SUVs, so how do the sedans stack up against a V8 SHO on paper?

The Ford PI got a major suspension & brakes work over for this year, has new rack-and-pinion steering which I would be ordering for my Marauder if I had one. Maybe that will cure the numb-nutz land yacht steering feel the Crown Vic is so well know for.

All three  police sedans are 20 second ET cars and that is with an empty trunk and no light bar.

The Ford PI comes with Goodyear RS-A Plus all season tires. Maybe Goodyear is using the same tread with a new silica-compound? I hope so for the guy who have to drive them.

Got comments? - Send them to Buford.

Now give me a Dr Pepper and a Diablo sandwich .......

2003 Ford Police Interceptor comes with "Goodyear Eagle RS-A. Plus"

Police are going to love them.

also new shocks, spring, suspension & rack & pinion,

all new ABS brake system

new variable speed electric fan for engine cooling and a knock sensor prevents detonation from low-octane fuels.

Higher head rest, optional side air bags, new and improved cup holders, (donut holders?)

Yea police are going to love those RS-A's once they get a few miles on them.

Maybe the plus means they don't turn to wood at 6/32"????

These are good improvements. After the loss of the Caprice, the CrownVic is still the best choice for general law-enforcement and highway-patrol usage IMO. The last patrol car I had was a 2000, and it was improved over the '98, but the '97 still felt better than the '98. My old department also bought some '01 Z28's for speed enforcement, and had 1100 and 1150 RT-P bikes, as well as Tahoes Durangos and dirt bikes (don't remember which ones) for off-road. A fairly good mix of vehicles for the various types of enforcement needs.
