The Generation III Sub-List is a collective of 1996 - 1999 Ford Taurus SHO owners and enthusiasts who have joined to form their own list server, courtesy of v8sho.com.  This list is separate from the SHOtimes listserver at American University, and unlike the SHOtimes list, we can send files to each other, which is great for the exchange of information.  Instructions for subscribing and unsubscribing to the list follows below.

******PLEASE TAKE NOTE: Do not sub to this list if your intent is to solely notify us of either a car or other item for sale. We are not e-bay. anything SHO related, non-vendor, should be directed to either SHOClubOfAmerica.com  to their classified section, or www.shoforum.com  in their classifieds. You may then feel free to forward the link to the list, and communicate to any interested parties OFF LIST, ONE TO ONE.  This list will not tolerate any priced advertising and you will be asked to leave. Should you ignore the request, you will be administratively un-subscribed.  Vendors know to send me their information to be posted in the vendors section on the front page. Any questions direct them to larry@v8sho.com ***************

To join the V8 SHO list server:
Send an email to:  v8sho-join@v8sho.com  In the body of the message, type nothing...leave this area blank    You will then receive a reply from the v8sho.com server in a short period of time.  This confirmation will contain some instructions which should be saved for future use.

To leave the V8 SHO list server:
Send an email to:  v8sho-leave@v8sho.com  filling in the "subject" line as unsubscribe (just regular text, no bold is necessary.)  In the body of the message, type nothing...leave this area blank.

To send messages to everyone on the list server:
Once you are subscribed, you can send correspondence to:  v8sho@v8sho.com

A Tip to new subscribers from an unnamed list member

This Email list has been together in a fairly tight core group for several years in one form or another. There are only ~20,000 of these cars EVER produced and EVERYTHING that has ever been thought of on these few cars has been discussed at LENGTH on dozens of occasions over the last 5 years to the point of beating the popular "Mustang" mods to death.
Every question you are going to post in the next week has been asked 5 times over this year and will be asked 7 more times by Xmas time.
Every 6 to 8 weeks an enterprising young fellow wanders into V8 SHO and asks a million questions about common modifications that just are not practical on our unusual format front wheel drive sedans.

Always the Blowers - Forget it.
Nitrous - Get a spare motor first.
No, You CAN'T Have a Stick tranny.
Next comes the flame war between pinning and welding.
Then tranny coolers.
Cobra slotted rotor brakes.
The gas tank holds what it holds.
The list goes on...

My point is this - Everyone on this list that has been here a while, by no fault of your own, is sick to death of these subjects. Do yourself a MAJOR favor - Do a VERY thorough search of the website BEFORE you post a question.

It helps to lurk quietly for about 2 months.

Grateful For This List

______________________________________________________________________

Please remember that this service is provided as a courtesy by v8sho.com, and we are all very grateful for the opportunity that they have provided.  This has been a great group of individuals to work with, with very little off-topic conversations.  Because of that, many of us are proud to be here and will continue to help in any way we can to make this site the best source for information on the 1996 - 1999 Ford Taurus SHO.

P O L I C Y   S T A T E M E N T

Post Off topic items with a subject prefix "OT", posting OT is a privilege, don’t abuse it.

Abusive, crude, lewd, vulgar, blasphemous or pornographic language & images have no place on V8SHO. In this case as in every other I asked the sender to think twice before about those on the other end before he sent something like this along and that has always worked out well.

Someone asked me define lewd or pornographic. Assume your HR manager is watching you as you send and the person is having their mail read by their supervisor and HR manager. If you would not be proud of the content, no matter the audience, don’t sent it to V8SHO. We have kids and women and sensitive guys like me on this list who just don't think this has any place on this list. The V8SHO list has always been know for its tact, courtesy and professionalism, those are not only our traditions but also our minimal standards.

If you see or read something objectionable on the list there is a 100% probability I have already taken care of the situation off list where it belongs. I have never yet removed anyone from the list and anytime I asked someone to watch their language or attitude (example: don't pick fights) the response has always been positive and private.

As luck would have it, I developed a bad SIMM and was off line for 48 hours and that is when all hell breaks lose. SHOForum is up again and they have fewer rules. For some that may be a better choice if this list is too structured.

As long as I am Sheriff, we don't rank on each other, we treat each other with respect and professionalism. We don't post porno. And the language can be slightly creative but not outright crude. This list started with less than 10 folks, I know because I started it, and it can go back to less than 10 people before I see it turn into a juvenile locker room.

This is not a change in policy. Mike Ivy contacted folks off line when things got way out of line and I intend to just continue his wise policies. What I ask is you treat others on the list as extended family because that is what is for many of us. If you would not say it to a 15 year old niece don't say it here. That is the same standard of professionalism expected in every workplace. If you can’t get along with someone else, block them, I am on several other lists and some folks can’t provoke me because their writings never get as far as my inbox.

Last topic, we have a lot of international members (and even if we did not). I am American without apology. I was tempted to put an American Flag on FAQ but my workstation was down. Point being we can be pro America without trashing any other any other faith, gender or nationality, which would be unprofessional behavior and unworthy of this group.

Folks,
It has been my pleasure to be on this list since it's very inception.  I, for one, have done my best to let the list be on it's own.  At times I find it necessary to step in and make comments to regulate the topics and or content of the messages.  Now I do subscribe to the methodology of privately counseling individuals that step out of line.  In fact I have already done so in this matter.  However, I find it necessary to step in and talk to the entire list about the latest foray into racially derogative jokes and or verbiage.

The List:
This list's sole purpose is for the betterment of the entire GEN III SHO community.  As the website states it is intended to contain "mostly" SHO related topics.  If for some reason we get into a topic that is not directly SHO related fear not.  If it gets overwhelming I will call for an end to it and I will do so privately.

Etiquette:
While I am a total gear head, and enjoy tech like you wouldn't believe, I too am a human and have trials and tribulations, joys and rewards that I like to share.  It's hard to separate one's self from one's car; and my cars, all of them, are a part of me and as stated before I am more than my car, so it follows that there will be off topic (OT) threads.  This is true for all individuals on the list.  If you find it necessary to post something that is (OT) then mark your post with such in the "Subject:" field (e.g.(OT) New Baby).  This way readers that have no interest in reading things that do not directly pertain to the SHO can delete them.  If you do not follow this little guide I will contact you and remind you to do so in the future.  This means that if someone does not mark their threads as (OT) you do not need to tell them to do so.
Tact:
For the most part we have never dealt with racial issues or derogatory "jokes."  There have been posts recently; however, that do not follow in the same light.  It is greatly important to remember that a person's race or heritage cannot be seen in an email, and that what may appear as a harmless joke to one could in fact be very offensive to another.  I know for some, you feel that all this "PC" stuff is ridiculous, It is however the rule here.  We will not offend our fellow list members by allowing such slurs to exist in this forum.  Please read your email before hitting the "Send" button.  If it or any attachment or embedded link can be misconstrued or deemed offensive in any way update the text/delete the attachment/remove the link to remedy it or do not send it at all.  If you are replying to a message or thread that irritates you or you feel the need for a rebuke send it off list (only a direct reply to the individual that offended you) and wait before you send it.  I have found a number of times that the first time I read something and it irritated me that after I re-read the original post and then my draft of a reply that I was in deed over-reacting.  Remember, "If you don't have anything nice to say...".

I hope this message finds you all in a good place and that you will review  my comments with true thought and open minds.  I appreciate everything that this list has become, and the last thing I want is for a few people to reduce the common denominator to such a level, as it would be uncomfortable to stay.  Have a great day and enjoy your weekend.

Sincerely,
Michael T. Ivy
