Tim~

I am writing to you in reference to my 1997 FORD Taurus SHO. With 67,606 MILES on my car, basically with no warning the car died. In the morning of January 28, 2003 my car had a slight ticking sound,, which stopped. By that evening, the car would not start.

I had the car towed to a mechanic that was recommended to me,, and he could not figure out what was wrong, I then had the car towed to Long Hill Auto Mechanics. After spending time looking at the car, I was told that I need a NEW ENGINE. With an estimate of $25,000.00. As I was in shock,, I contacted FORD MOTOR COMPANY. After giving my VIN NUMBER, to FORD MOTOR COMPANY, I was told that there was NO recalls on my car, and that they could by of NO ASSISTANCE as my car was no longer under warranty. This seemed totally unbelievable to me, so, I went onto the Internet, and found a website which was devoted entirely to SHO's. After reviewing the site, I found that I was not the only owner of a SHO to have this problem. Once again, I contacted the mechanic at Long Hill, he then was making numerous phone calls as well,, as he has never had seen a problem of this sort. I was then given another estimate of $12000.00. I have since went to Long Hill Auto Mechanic and had my car once again towed,, this time home. After spending numerous dollars on towing and over one thousand dollars to Long Hill for their service, I am at a stand still as to what to do. I contacted Consumer Affairs, and I also emailed each local news channel. Somehow, FORD should of let their SHO owners know that they in fact need to have their CAMS WELDED, as to avoid the problem of ENGINE FAILURE. I am truly upset with this problem, and cannot understand how FORD in unwilling to help.

Sincerely,
Ann Lammi
