High or Surging Idle Problem / Dying at Low RPM

New 11/19/2004

Good Morning guys,
Is there a TSB number for the TPS fix for high idle
problem? I have been having this high idle problem for
sometime now and I took it to couple of mechanics and
there were always temporary fixes as you mention in
the website notes, but the problem always came back.
At one point of time, it would die sometimes at very
low speed. Replacing one injector and swapping two
more helped.

It still idles at high rpm 2000-2500 often. I noticed
that adding injector cleaner or fuel gas treatment
helps. I have had to use gas line and fuel injector
cleaners on regular basis to keep the problem in
check.

Last night and this morning my 97 SHO would start, but
would cut out immediately. I could keep it running by
keeping my foot on the gas pedal and the rpm above
500. It would cut out every time that I slowed down. I
managed to drive it home last night. This morning, I
added half a bottle of the gas line treatment since I
did not have a full tank of gas and that got it going.
It is even idling at somewhat normal rpm.

I noticed that changing climates, even going from
southern Ohio to Detroit would cause the engine to run
more rough. The weather changed quickly from a warm
day to a cold night over here.

I have not ignored any of these problems, but they
always been intermittent and could never find a good
reliable mechanic to work on it. the error varied
from a mis fire, to MAF sensor.

I would appreciate any help to get it running right.
Thanks

It's a 97 right ??
I had the same issue with mine, and had to replace the TPS (throttle position sensor).
This fixed the issue.
Have you changed the TPS ??

Thanks,
Stan Phillips
