I called Garrett Berrs, a factory rep out of St. Louis for Loctite for our camsprocket issue.
Seems he has experience with a cam problem Ford has had with their V-10. He thinks we might be able to use a residue free contact cleaner and then use some type of Loctite product to wick into the splines, which he reports makes a press fit five times stronger.
Anyway I expect to meet him in Decatur this Friday for details. I'll get a parts list with prices. It should be a cheap fix, not withstanding labor.
I have never changed spark plugs or exposed my camshafts myself.
If anyone has a procedure & parts list, let me know, I'll put it on FAQ.
OK, say I Loctite my cams and they don't fail for how long? What does it prove?
Yesterday I got another report of a failed Camsprocket, 97 with 46,476 miles. Repair bill was over $2,400. That scares me. That is failure #20 or #21 we can document
If Loctite works it would not put any heat into the cam or involve any weld splatter.
Hope locks eternal. I might try some "Preparation H" on the sprocket if it would "reduce swelling and irritation" and help keep my engine trouble free.
