Ians Freak SHO Times

New 05/03/2006, updated post 06 Convention

Good day for me at the drag strip. I managed to get 3 14.8's and 1
14.9. I was surprised it was running so quick because it was quite
warm today (~60F).

RT 60' 330' 1/8th mph 1/4 mph
.767 2.462 NA 9.929 74.210 15.248 92.279
.734 2.388 6.885 9.939 74.180 15.277 92.573
.666 2.260 6.621 9.600 75.765 14.859 93.754
.925 2.290 NA 9.613 75.043 14.899 92.730
.505 2.342 NA 9.683 75.078 14.969 92.625
.570 2.403 NA 9.850 74.376 15.180 91.959 Cutout CLOSED
.671 2.289 6.734 9.743 75.126 15.050 92.642
.559 2.251 6.622 9.604 75.741 14.873 93.478

All runs were made with exhaust cut-out open except one. The only
change I've made since last fall is the carbon fibre hood which saves
close to 40 lbs. With cooler weather and less fuel load I could
easily knock a tenth or two off of those times. Oh yeah, all of these
runs were made with a full interior.

Hey all convention attendees-

I've seen the pictures, read the emails, but I still haven't been able to
figure out 1/4 times and such. I'm curious to see what effect the 100+ temps
had on everyone (V6s and V8s).

Slow day on the list so I thought I'd post this.

Just got around to entering timeslips into my database and I found
some interesting things.

Slip from Lapeer this spring:
.575 2.253 9.151* 9.717@79.42 14.846@94.60
Slips from Luskville Dragway also this spring:
.666 2.260 6.621 9.600@75.765 14.859@93.754
.559 2.251 6.622 9.604@75.741 14.873@93.478

Similar 60' times but look at the 1/8th. Lapeer had a slower 1/8th ET
but a much higher trap. I've always suspected Lapeer's 1/8th trap
speeds.

For comparison here's my fastest run from the convention:
.647 2.417 6.598 9.955@73.73 15.263@92.62

I'm not sure but the temperature of the first two runs was in the high
80's or low 90's. I made a point of getting out two quick runs right
off the bat. The clouds were blocking the sun and the temperature was
not crazy hot like the rest of the day.

The temperatures when I ran at Luskville were from 59-63 degrees. I
didn't write down the temperature on my Lapeer slip since I was
pre-occupied with a leaking brake line (pretty scary) but I think they
were similar.

Intake/engine temperatures have a big impact on the times too. When I
ran at Luskville earlier this year I made a couple of quick passes
after arriving, both were 15.2's. I let the car cool off for 42
minutes and ran a 14.859 followed by a 14.899 shortly after. I let
the car cool off for 59 minutes between my last two runs and the ET
dropped from 15.050 to 14.873.

If you're disappointed with your ETs you may want to avoid hot days
(the colder the better) and you may want to give the car plenty of
cooling off between runs. I think the next time we go to Lapeer I may
rent a car for the day to play with while I'm waiting for the SHO to
cool off.

I actually ran faster than last year even though it was hotter. Must
be the carbon fiber hood. Most people were running quite a bit
slower.

The last run was ran about 5 minutes after the previous run and had
very little cool down. Goes to show you how much heat is a factor.
The first two runs were made when early in the morning when the
temperature was only in the low 90's.

Lapeer was low-mid 50s, which was cooler than Luskville.

I don't see your puzzlement about the 1/8-mile times. 60' times are
virtually unaffected by weather. Cooler weather cab help the HP for better
trap speeds, 1/8 or 1/4.

What are the 9.151 and a 9.717 for 1/8 times on the Lapeer line below?

Also hard to surmise anything from a single run on a given day. Same could
be said for only two runs, but the two Luskville were pretty consistent.
