new 6/3/03
Hi,
I have a 1996 SHO....bought it two years ago for a good deal. It was my dream car.....always liked them.....but never really could afford them when they came out. However, now my dream has turned into a nightmare.
I got the car at 67,000 miles, currently it is on 103,000 miles.....never did any research on them, because it was FORD, and from where I come from (Ireland) FORD has a great reputation. However, overhere FORD rep is slowly being brought down...not by the owners of the FORD cars...but by FORD themselves.
Anyways....about November/December I heard a clicking/knocking noise.....and this being my car and all the other problems I had with it.....thought it was something small...I mean the car ran...the engine light never came on, so it was not a problem. Then about March of this year I brought it to Midas to see what the clicking/knocking noise was, because it had being get worse. They figured it was the lifters......and quoted me a price.....they said it wouldn't damage the life of the car if I didn't do them right away, so I held off and waited till the summer. Where my wife as a school teacher would be home, and I could use her or she could drive me to work. And they said that should be fine.
Then about a week ago.....while down town in Grand Rapids I got to a traffic light......the engine light came on....the car sturred to the stop light....and then died. Dead as a door nail.....so the car was towed to Midas, and then to the dealer.......where the dealer said....the camshaft is gone, and the valves have been bent....and wait for it. It will cost me $3,400 to have fixed.
We still owe on the car......and this cost, plus the money I have already put into the car is more than half of what we owe on the car. Makes me sad to see my dream car die....but at the same time....I really don't see any logical reason to pour money into it, when I know it is at the end of its life with me.
Now I need to move on....and get a different car......FORD is not going to help me out on this one. In one respect I can understand that they can't cover a car that is out of warranty, but in another respect I can't understand it.....because after this car is gone......it will BE NEVER USED...AND NEVER FORD when it comes to buying another car.
SHO....the coolest car I have ever driven since I moved over here.......at least I got to drive my dream car....:)
If anyone is interested in buying it....because the body is great....leather seats....6 CD changer in it......brakes need to be done.....then please drop me a line with a reasonable offer.....just want it off my plate. Currently it costs me $229 a month on the car loan.....if you want to take it over....drop me a line.....bye for now.
J.D.
John, what color? Where do you live? What shape is the car in otherwise?
BTW, If they will fix the car for $3,400 - take it.
What is the VIN? What is your last name?
Timothy Wright
I don't have my VIN number....because...well all of that information is in the glove compartment.
Colour is RED......Daly is the last name.
Grand Rapids, MI
And honestly.....at $3,400 I know that is cheap to some of the prices I have seen on your website......I am afraid that if I do this....then something else is going to go.....learning so much about this car. The struts for one thing probably need to be repaired as well.......but
other than that....I can't think of any other issues.
The car is a dream to drive.....the body is great....no rust that I can see......moonroof.......I will have to see what the vin number is?
When I purchased it, which was 2001 it had 67,520 miles on it
