I own a 1997 Ford Taurus SHO it spun the cam at 135,000 miles. The VIN is 1FALP54N3VA132656
Date of malfunction: 04/05/2005
Where malfunction took place: County Road
Odometer Reading at time of malfunction: 135,000
How fast were you traveling: 35mph
Were you accelerating or staying at a constant speed: Constant Speed
Estimated date of purchase new or used: Used 05/12/03
Brief description: I had stopped at the store, when I started to car it made a rattling noise, it went about 5 miles, popped and the noise increased a lot and the car died and would not restart.
Dealer determined: Called Hudspeth Ford in Harrison, AR they said they did not know but it would cost me around $600.00 to find out. Berryville Ford in Berryville, AR told me it probably spun the cam as the 1996-1997 Taurus SHO inevitable does so at around 130,000 miles and it would cost around $5500.00 to repair.
Cause of failure determined by you: Cam shaft spun causing valve to piston contact.
How much was your statement: I could not afford to have it fixed as I am disabled.
What can FOMOCO do: Pay to have it repaired and for the loss of use of the vehicle.
