00-3-5 ISSUE: A high idle may occur on some vehicles. This may be caused by a poor electrical connection at the wire harness (-12B637-) to Throttle Position Sensor (TPS).

96-3-1 ISSUE: A windnoise may be evident on some vehicles at the A-pillar and/or windshield. The windnoise may be heard at varying speeds and conditions. This may be caused by the cutline seal on the doors not being fully seated which allows the seal to vibrate. There may also be wind traveling up the A-pillar and lifting the windshield moulding which permits it to act as a reed in a crosswind.

96-3-3 ISSUE: A "squeak" and/or "groan" noise may come from the front wheel opening area when turning the wheels to the left or right. This may be caused by contact and rubbing between the upper and lower bearing caps of the upper spring seat and bearing assembly.

  1. ISSUE: A windnoise may be evident on some vehicles along the A-pillar and/or around the windshield. The noise may be caused by the cutline seals on the front doors not being fully seated or the seals not being stiff enough. There may also be a windnoise around the windshield due to wind traveling up the A-pillar between the windshield moulding and the A-pillars on both front sides, which may cause the moulding to vibrate.

96-26-1 ISSUE: There have been product revisions to Taurus, Sable and Taurus SHO models for 1997. Awareness of these changes will increase the dealer's ability to "Fix It Right The First Time On Time," and help avoid submitting inappropriate misbuilt vehicle claims, as well as explain to customers the features on their vehicles.

97-2-3 ISSUE: A "clunk" noise on heavy acceleration and/or deceleration or on turns may be heard and/or felt in the floor pan area. This may be caused by the rear lower subframe insulators allowing movement between the mounts and the subframe.

97-2-5 ISSUE: There may be a "clunking" noise from the front suspension of the vehicle. This may be due to early wear of the sway bar links.

97-11-5 ISSUE: This TSB article contains information on reprogramming Remote Anti-Theft Personality (RAP) transmitters and how to diagnose if the transmitter needs reprogramming.

97-15-2 ISSUE: The outside front door handles may have high efforts and/or feel rough when operating and may become more pronounced in cold and/or wet conditions. This may be caused by illuminated entry switch contact with the door operating mechanism.

97-18-4 ISSUE: Some vehicles may experience static in the AM band of the radio while driving. This may be caused by isolation between the wheel bearing and the chassis which allows static electricity to build up in the wheel bearings. This static electricity creates an interference with the radio on the AM bands.

97-23-1 ISSUE: A comprehensive front suspension noise diagnostic and inspection procedure has been developed to aid technicians. The noise could be identified as any of the following: "clunking, popping, thumping, rattling, squeaking, or creaking."

97-24-13 ISSUE: The Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) system may be inoperative. This may be caused by several different items.

97-25-2 ISSUE: The subframe front and rear retention nuts may spin if removal is required or the subframe bolt may break due to the excessive force required to break the bond from the adhesive on the bolt.

97-25-5 ISSUE: Some vehicles may exhibit a "squeaking" or "chirping" from the blower motor at low blower motor speeds. This may be caused by uneven brush friction on the commutator surface of the motor.

97-26-3 ISSUE: Proper door panel removal procedure must be followed to prevent damage to the door panel and/or speaker grille.

98-3-7 ISSUE: Some vehicles may experience an intermittent Neutral condition after driving and coming to a stop. This may be caused by the bonded seal on the forward clutch piston intermittently not sealing during the 3-2 downshift.

98-3-8 ISSUE: The 1998 AX4S and AX4N transaxles use a new transmission fluid.

98-8-8 ISSUE: A new automatic transmission fluid (MERCONŽ V) was introduced in 1997 for use in vehicles equipped with a 4R44E or 5R55E transmission. In the 1998 model year, MERCONŽ V fluid is now used in the 4R70W transmission and AX4S and AX4N transaxles. MERCONŽ V is not interchangeable at this time with the current MERCONŽ service fluids.

98-25-1 ISSUE: There may be a possible chafing of the fuel pump assembly wires resulting in an open fuse and/or inoperable fuel pump assembly or a no start condition on some vehicles. This may be due to wires chafing on the hose clamps that retain the pressure and return fuel hoses. Chafing may also occur on the flange of the assembly and the tank itself.

99-2-6 ISSUE: The following may be fuel gauge/tank concerns:

99-6-5 ISSUE: Windnoise from the side doors may be heard on some vehicles. This may be caused by the door weatherstrip seal. This TSB article provides Service Tips for correcting this concern.

99-7-5 ISSUE: There have been significant product changes to the 1999 Taurus/Sable and Taurus SHO. Awareness of these changes should increase the dealer's ability to "Fix It Right The First Time On Time," help avoid submitting inappropriate misbuilt vehicle claims, and improve customer awareness of the features on their vehicle.

99-8-15 ISSUE: There has been an increase in the number of door trim panel replacements due to damage. This may be caused by a misconception of the type of fastener used to secure the door trim panel.

99-15-1 ISSUE: The following may be fuel gauge/tank concerns:

99-24-2 ISSUE: The current door, decklid, ignition, and stowage locks cannot be serviced individually. Current lock repair practice is to replace the entire lockset (-22050-) when one (1) or more locks must be replaced. The release of this TSB and associated parts will allow replacement of any individual malfunctioning lock (i.e., door lock, ignition lock, decklid lock, etc.) instead of replacing the entire lockset. This TSB only applies to the 8-bit locks introduced in 1996. The 10-bit lock is not affected.

99-24-3 ISSUE: The front windshield wipers may operate while the multifunction switch is in the OFF position on some vehicles. This may be caused by a resistance drift in the multifunction switch or a partially plugged-in connector.

99-26-6 ISSUE: A vehicle equipped with Passive Anti-Theft System (PATS) may not start or crank. This may be caused by several different items.
