Looking for ABS code reader near Cincinnati...

New 3/13/05

Just thought I'd see if one of the SHO folks near Cincinnati might be able to help me get an ABS light off. Replaced all the sensors in my wife's Navigator and the light still comes on and it keeps blowing the Maxi 60-amp fuse. I've got to find someone with a scan tool that will read the codes.

Thanks,

Jamie Best

Not ABS codes.

I'm not sure if the Auto-Zone scanner will scan brakes and such . It takes a kick ass scanner like my MAC to do the job IIRC .

The light is on because the fuse is blown. The real problem is why the fuse is blown. I doubt a scanner of any kind will tell you where the short is.

What else is on that circuit?

I don't think anything else is on that circuit. I replaced the front hubs before going on a trip a few weeks ago. I drove 3200 miles with no issues. I wasn't back a week and the light came on. I checked the fuses, saw it was blown and replaced it. It blew again as soon as I turned the truck on. I grabbed the old hubs and plugged them in to see if maybe one of the sensors was bad. Changed out the fuse and it blew again. I replaced the rear sensor in the diff. Changed the fuse again, and boom, blew again. I thought maybe the ABS module was bad and that it could have sent a signal before blowing up. I don't know???

If it blew a 60amp fuse as soon as you hit the key, it doesn't have anything to do with the hubs. The sensors are merely A/C voltage generators and only make about 1-2vac. You'll need to find out where your dead short is. It could be the motor itself, but more than likely, you've got a pinched wire somewhere.

I had the same situation with my 96 Bronco. The problem was that the ABS servo motor was seized. Because the lines were so crusty, I was reluctant to try and remove it. Therefore I cannot say that the unit is serviceable. When the weather gets more agreeable I will address the problem. For now I just removed the bulb. Perhaps Part of the problem is that the motor does not get enough cycling, although I believe that it does cycle on every startup.
