MAF Cleaning - An Idiots Guide

12/25/2006

I've never done this so I am wondering, am I supposed to clean just the sensor or also the "hot wire" thingy inside the unit too ?

I should point out the V8SHO.com directions say to use a T-20 torx bit, when in reality its a "tamper proof" T-20 bit, or one with the hole in the middle. for complete novices like me this is not immediately obvious. but then , I do drive the "doomed to fail SHO" ; )

OK...thanks PFish

the instructions are def. confusing then. from what I read on V8SHO.com it doesn't mention the wire , only removing the sensor. I only knew about the internal wire from a glance at a Chiltons. hmmmm....maybe an overwrite is due ?

Don't remove anything! Open the airbox, spray the two tiny sample
wires with contact cleaner (I prefer "Lectra-Motive") and be done with
it! There is no need to touch anything or remove anything.

def. a rewrite is in order then !! glad I asked ......all this jazz on there about cleaning letting dry then re-installing is for naught eh ?

well I have electronics cleaner, generic NAPA spray, it says " leaves no residue " so I suppose I am in the clear using it

That stuff will be just fine. Use the little red straw to direct the
jet right at those little wires inside the sample tube in the MAF. It
only takes a few 1-to-2-second sprays to remove any oily residue, and
there won't be any appreciable runoff to worry about.

I just spray the cleaner into the tube on the MAF. No need for the dorx screws things.

I am happy to report that performing MAF cleaning yesterday and was slightly more difficult than making a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, and my SHO now runs as it should, with full power and smooth and menacing sounding acceleration : )
