Subject: CAM Failure
Larry,
My name is Paul Ross. I have a 1999 Silver Taurus SHO VIN# 1FAFP54N5XA232144.
I took my SHO into my mechanic so he could diagnose a "ticking" on the valves and upon idling, it would "miss". He checked out the engine and found that the intake cam was loose on the sprocket. He said this is the first time he had ever seen one. My mechanic is a former Ford mechanic. So he called around for me to find me new cams. He found 2 for a price tag of approx. $1400.00. They would be OEM from Ford. Then I remembered about "Ford Performance Specialists" in Douglasville, Ga. I called and spoke to June who set me up with an appt to bring the car down by 2-wheel dolly on Feb 13th. Then I spoke with Doug down there, and he said he can fix the car. He, of course, is going to weld the sprockets. I should have the car back about Feb 17th. He is going to charge me $450.00 + Tax + Oil Change. When I get the final bill, if you want, I will scan it in and send it to you for the Class Action Lawsuit. Just let me know. I guess at this point I'm one of the few lucky ones where it didn't damage my engine and it can be fixed. Oh I have roughly 170,000 miles on the car so I really am one of the few lucky ones.
Get back to me if you need to ask any additional info or feel free to call me to talk about it.
Thanks
Paul D. Ross
