Just wondering how many folks are left over from the days before V8SHO was a
list server and it was a CC list?

I think Don was in early, long before he owned a gen 3, We had ~ 110 members
before it was a list.
We peaked ~ 300, I think current list ~ 250 members.
A lot of folks are gone.

Nope it was when Mike Ivy left.. That was a sad day in my book.
Mike Ivy was the one who got us the website and name for those that don't
know.

I would have to Agree with That. Mike was top Notch in the short time I chatted
with him.

Lol yea more fun then. The list will change as younger people come into. {yikes
being only 35 makes that tough to say}
Now the only way Ron and MR H2O Pick on me is at Lapeer.

after the origination of the list. Just curious.

Good 'ole days? lol. When it first started, it was a 'reply all' contact list
that Tim set up. I think it was back in early-mid 98? Tim? There were
approximately 12 of us at first. When it started getting to the point where
keeping track of all the additions was tedious, it was suggested we go to an
actual list-serv. Tim, as did many of us, didn't like the idea because it split
up the SHO community; V6 or V8. But back then the V6 folks weren't very friendly
to those of us with V8's (I had a white 97 back then), so it wasn't hard to get
everyone interested in the idea (plus SHOtimes didn't allow attachments).
Funny how time changes things. Back then the V8 was the 'new' cars. Now they're
all just old cars (relatively speaking) and I see less and less of a reason to
have the groups split up.

There is an official history:
http://www.v8sho.com/SHO/Cyber_Stallions.htm
Bill Moore started the original GEN III FAQ way back in 96 or 97.
I was on SHO times and they would not allow attachments and I had a few
documents in word or Excel I wanted to share, (nothing as exotic as jpgs) so
I made a group in outlook of V8SHO owners (about 5) on SHOtimes.
That was back in 1998? You had to ask to be in the list and as folks opted
in out out I kept a count and some one would join and I would tell them
"your member 35" which meant only that today we are up to 35 members and you
are the newest."
When you got a E mail you simply did a "reply all", It was painful
converting to a list server for many reasons, including I did not want to be
moderator or web master.
Mike Ivy stepped in and hosted V8SHO at the university where he works but in
time that had to change. (The University was paying for server, storage and
bandwidth). Bill Moore donated the content of his site and we kept the same
format which he got from the original SHOtimes.
In short order, Mike had a sick child, a new baby, a promotion or two and
sold the SHO but stayed on as webmaster even though he had no SHO and was
busy.
I had been contributing and in time Mike handed V8SHO over to me. I had the
job for a 2-3 years and honestly it is a lot of work, I was happy to give
the job to Larry.

Anyone remember when SHOtimes was hosted for free at Catholic U.?
Tim
The very first SHO on-line community was on the old Prodigy
system, and it was a forum style thing?
I started it in 1991 and called it SHO Fast Sedan News
(SFSN). Ron Porter was like the next person to join up and
he is still involved heavily in the SHO Community.
When Prodigy started charging for posting and reading, it
moved to a listserve. I forget the person that started
that, I am sure others will fill in the blanks, but they did
a great job. At one point I was about to take over, but I
just didn't have the computer knowledge to set it up and
keep it running.
When I started SHO Club, I was asked about starting a list
or forum, and I saw no need to compete with SHOtimes and V8
SHO. but since then there have been another half dozen
"competitors" but those two remain the main lists as far as
I am concerned. SHO Forum does a good job, but I find the
Forum format just a lot of bother and don't visit there
often. the others are just tag-along sites really. Anytime
something gets even remotely popular, when a few or even one
person gets upset, they then run off and start up their own
site. That has happened several times, and there are a
couple of "tech" lists that try to keep down the off-topic
chat, and they do pretty good.

I came in when I got my 97 used in 99...it was a mailing list if I remember. I
posted a message that the car sounded real mellow, and was promptly told that it
could'nt be the original exhaust. Turns out it was a stainless system that
lasted until last month. The pipes rusted out, the cat was shot, but the
mufflers are still mellow. 140K and still running.

I bought my '97 ES in 03/98, (it had 15k miles on it, now has 129k, cams welded
by Kirk in OKC) and joined sometime after that, I don't know when....it was when
Mike Ivy was still running it, on some .edu domain???

Very cool thread indeed. Good times, good times…
I like the picture at the end.
That’s sure a funny looking 4X4 SHO in there, huh? I remember when that pic was
posted. Some where asking why in the hell did Doug put his PowerStroke in that
picture of SHO’s?
Needless to say with the mods done to that truck, it would make a lot of SHO’s
look silly.

I started lurking in June 2001. I became active in early 2002 and have been here daily ever since. This thread today was the most enjoyable I have seen in quite a while. While Tim is correct some folk have moved on, others have come to take their place. To my way of thinking, our Community when it's all said and done, is comprised by and large by some of the finest people you would ever want to meet.
That is why the Conventions are such a great gathering. SHO Folk, all GEN's gather for three days of car talk, hanging out in parking lots, and just having more fun than should be legal.
At the end of the day, SHO Folk are good folk.
