Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) 628, P0741, and/or P1744 Stored After Installing an Exchange Transaxle
Due to the various sprocket ratios used in the AX4S, you can get a false DTC 628, P0741 or P1744 by using the wrong sprocket count. These codes refer to TCC problems. The computer compares the signal from the turbine shaft sensor (TSS) to engine RPM. If the ratio is incorrect the computer sees a slip. In order to keep from installing the wrong ratio, it is advisable to count the teeth on the drive and driven sprockets. Using a marker, write the tooth count on the outside of the unit. Before installing an exchange unit, count the original units sprockets to insure a match.
A good test to see if the TCC slip code is related to the wrong sprockets is to check for TCC slip on the lift. If the code will set on the lift you probably have the wrong sprockets.
