Tranny Woes

new 7/11/04

OK, so I posted a couple of months back about a "fix" for leaking cooler lines, a buddy sleeved the line with a rubber hose. Today, it blew. Cruising up the Interstate at a respectable clip, hot day, all of a sudden I notice smoke coming from the rear of the car. Pull off at the next exit, about a mile on, and find one hell of a leak with fluid just flowing out. Shut down and called for a hook. Fluid all over the bottom and side of the car. Flatbed took the car to a local shop my wife uses for her trucks. I'd not driven the SHO in about a month, replacing the battery yesterday. Figures.

I've got a fix for this.

I installed a cooler for a customer that was baking his fluid on long trips (converter cycling with A/C overheats the fluid). His lines were rusty and were gonna go at any time. I installed the cooler in front of the condenser core and plumbed rubber lines to high flow fittings at the transmission. The new cooler and lines bypass all the factory hardware and does a much better job. Before I installed the cooler, a short but spirited run would get the tranny temps to 200. After the cooler, I could kick the crap out of the car and not get the temps over 180. The kit will sell for $150 and should only take you an hour or two to install with only light hand tools.

Incidentally, I've got a fix for the converter as well. I can program a chip to fix all the tranny and power issues. It's an internal chip that I program with my SCT software. The chip installs into the back of the PCM and works very well. I take out the rev limiter in Park and Neutral, I also fix the drivability issues like the IMRC controls, cooling fans and so on. So far, I've been hugely successful with this programming. Those that have reported back, claim 3-4mpg improvement and loads of power.

Great news on the cooler / line fix , Reasonably priced and "easier "than a hard line replacement . I may be talking with you on the SCT soon .
