V8 Screen Saver - Now Accepting Pictures!

new 12/27/2003, updated 1/4/2004

Larry,

Troy was able to get me the files for the previous V8 Screen saver, and I have the software originally used so everything stays consistent. I Was just going to e-mail the list, but I thought I would run it by you first just to keep everything official. Here are a list of small requests to keep the screen saver quality high, any addition or deletions you want just let me know. I was going to suggest leaving it open for new pics for 2-3 weeks or so, or as long as people keep sending them to me. think that will be enough time? If everything looks good to you, I’ll post a message on the list and give info on where to send pics.

Mike

Just to keep up the quality of the screen saver, here are a few rules:

The screen saver is for Gen III SHOs, please don’t sent pictures of other cars or SLOs sorry!

No photoshopped mods, if you use photoshop to enhance your picture, that’s okay, just please don’t add window tint, big rims, underbodies, or anything else with photoshop.

As much as we might like to, please, no pictures of broken cams! (or even welded cams)

Include your name and location if you desire for the picture captions.

I understand that there is a big group shot of most of the participants taken at each yearly SHO convention, anyone who has copies of those; they would make great additions to the screen saver.

Email your pictures to Mike at v8sho@vt.edu. Also, if you wish, block out your license plate.

There is a lot of history on the screensaver in terms of early members. I think its about time we get current. I have already sent Mike my choice to be added. I hope all who are not on it send him a picture in the next two to three weeks. Let's shoot for closing date of Friday, January 23, 2004. This will give us enough time to get it in place by the end of January.

U.L.

P. S. My thanks to Mike for taking on this project. It is no small undertaking.

Mike,
What size and type of file would you need for this project? How many images of our cars? ;)
Thanks for this!
Perhaps a note on the web site with the appropriate file types and sizes would be good as a suggestion.

I’m CCing Larry on this so he can add it to the web page, just in case others have the same question.

As for size, the best pictures are 640x480 or larger, as the screen saver will enlarge the pictures to fill the screen, images much smaller than that will lose a lot of quality, 640’s appear pretty good though. For file size concerns, 1024x768 is plenty large enough to avoid any loss of quality. If you have pictures that are outside of that range, that’s alright also, but inside that range is best.

For file types, .jpg is ideal, it’s a popular compressed format. .gif is also fine. .bmps are too large to add to the screen saver, but they can be easily converted to .jpgs. if you have .bmps, it would be great if you could convert them to .jpg before sending, but if you don’t have the software/don’t know how/don’t have time feel free to submit them in .bmp format, I can convert them quickly and easily myself.

While it wouldn’t be too good for everyone to submit their entire photo album of their cars, don’t constrain yourself to any limited number of images, there are some that only have one picture, and other cars that there are many pictures.
