Y Pipe Removal

New 6/3/05

Can anyone recommend a good way to loosen the nuts that hold the Y-pipe to the exhaust manifold. I tried to loosen the nuts and am afraid they will snap before loosening.

The first time I took mine off the tranny shop rounded the rear ones off. Nothing was going to move them. I ended up with the engine out and the entire Y-pipe assembly attached. I cut the studs off and then used a pair of vise-grips to back them out of the manifold. The replacements were like $5 a pair as I recall. The second time I did it I spent two day soaking them generously with PB-Blaster and made sure I was using an eight point socket before I attempted to remove it. Make sure you have that socket all the way on.
