Subject: Good news - bad noose
Dear SHO Folk,
First the good news, After 10 days in Huntington Beach, and meeting Vadim and
his family. I now have the only blown 3 Gen SHO on earth, at least that I know
about. It took all the magic I had left on my gold card, and while I was at it I
did the Baer Racing brakes front and rear and lowered the car almost 1.5".
The car pulls like beast, the blower makes 9 psi max and needs the intercooler
and 92 octane full time now.
This should level the playing field with the GTP guys. The car now makes 332 hp
at the wheel at 6800 rpm. I don't know what it will do at the track because
traction is a major problem.
Driving home was a hoot, I can now run 6500-6800 rpm in OD. All was going well
until I got to Montoya NM, I pissed off a trucker and he had a CB. The next exit
was blocked off with squad cars. And the next one looked like a police
convention.
So now I am in Tucumcari and they are taking my car apart and still dreaming up
charges. They will not believe I was just doing this for fun and my wrists still
hurt from the cuffs.
Tomorrow I get arraigned, and I hope I can arrange bail. They are talking about
seizing the car. Send any contributions for my defense fund to Don Mallinson.

Eheh, this is a joke right? Oh wait you live in the states don't you?
Damn, I hope you are kidding.
Shawn
Please send pics...........don't make us beg!
Mark
From Jail?
of the car or the jail?
Tim
Tim,
Knowing of your great sense of humor is this for real or an early April Fools
joke?
I would believe you about the cops, due to past circumstances, but the blower???
Gotta know.
Scott
April Fools Day is Saturday Tim. Tell us you're joking on the constable
problem, but serious on the blower!
I can't imagine a trucker having enough substance to get you in the pokey.
Remember the term "hearsay"! Can he prove it?
After all, you told them who you were right? Buford T. Justice!! They had to let
you go.
Scott
I live right next door to Huntington Beach (all right, I admit it, I live in
the dumpster behind the SHO Shop), and I didn't see anyone parading around
pretending to be Jackie Gleason, spouting off whimsical southern-fried phrases
between massive episodes of flatulence, so I think I can safely say that you
have not been anywhere near HB recently. Isn't that true, Mr. Wright?
Don't try to lie to us because we'll see your lips moving!

I know the American jail system is permissive, but Web access while in a

You would be surprised what our inmates can get a hold of now a
days.................
Mark.
(Not speaking from experience like Buford though........)
The stories kinda confusing. Did u get arrested for speeding, or did u run from the cops? And if u were speeding how fast were u going that u were cuffed?
Confused,

I recently met one of the members of this 3rd Generation SHO list and am
looking for more information on modifying my 96 Taurus SHO. I've always thought
there was room for improving the performance of these cars but see so few here
in Southern California that I didn't know where to go for assistance.
Tim, if you're reading this post, I thank you once again for your advice (met
you @ Denny's in Costa Mesa, last week) and look forward to future enhancements
on my ride. While I may not be in a position to modify as heavily as you, I was
extremely impressed by the ultra clean blower setup you have installed!
Hope you had a good trip home!
Bill H.
Is that you Paul?

Some Mods, but no S/C
Hi folks,
Don't worry, Tim is not in jail...he's at home. There is not a blown 3rd
gen and you can't get Baer brakes for the rear of our cars. Let's look at the
evidence shall we.
First off Tim said...
"First the good news, After 10 days in Huntington Beach, and meeting Vadim

now about. It took all the magic I had left on my gold card, and while I was at
it I did the Baer Racing brakes front and rear and lowered the car almost
1.5"."
Minor problem = there is not a Baer Brake Kit for our cars.
Tim went on to say...
"Driving home was a hoot, I can now run 6500-6800 rpm in OD."
Minor problem 2 = can you say sped limiter, no mention of the LPM
Then Tim went on to say...
"So now I am in Tucumcari"
Minor Problem 3 = While Montoya and Tucumcari are on Interstate 40 with one exit
between them, Tim's message was sent from a dial up uunet connection (IP address
) in IL (41.883N 87.6225W Lat and Long) Got this from the properties of the
message. So unless he used his one phone call to dial up to his isp and send the
message he's yanking your chain.
Tim's message says it was sent at 4/1/2000 at 10:26PM...
Minor Problem 4 = It was actually sent at Wed, 29 Mar 2000 19:23:56 -0800
according to the properties. The -8:00 would be GMT minus eight hours and that
would be central IL.
Then Mark replied...
"Please send pics...........don't make us beg!"
Minor Problem 5 = Tim responded "From Jail? of the car or the jail?"
from the same IP address at Wed 3/29/2000 10:52 PM
Then there was this message from a new member...
"I recently met one of the members of this 3rd Generation SHO list and am
looking for more information on modifying my 96 Taurus SHO. I've always thought
there was room for improving the performance of these cars but see so few here
in Southern California that I didn't know where to go for assistance.

on my ride. While I may not be in a position to modify as heavily as you, I was
extremely impressed by the ultra clean blower setup you have installed!
Hope you had a good trip home!
Bill H."
Minor Problem 6 = This almost threw me because according to the properties of
the message it came from an IP () that is registered to socal.rr.com (33.783N
117.925W which is close to Hunnington Beach). They service a lot of areas
including So-Cal with broadband cable modems. It looked legit until I looked at
all of the members that are registered with the list who have an rr.com email
address. There were two, June and George . If you recall George replied to the
original message from Tim. Looking at the properties George's response was
actually the first to be sent. Also George's IP was () which is the same
originating IP address as the "New Member." Since bb cable modems have
static IP addresses I guess we know who the new member is.
To recap:
Tim sent both messages from home in IL
There are no Baer brakes for the back of our cars
Tim conspired with George (the first to reply...and happens to live in
So-Cal) to email a supporting statement
Tim's dates were wrong
I feel better now. Attached you will find a text document with the properties
from the three emails in question. Take a look.
Have a great day and don't let anyone fool you,
Mike

Well, 6800 rpm in over drive would be around 175 mph. Tim is known to speed a
lot. I believe he got a ticket for 120 awhile back.
Matthew
BTW, your email about your supercharging and subsequent legal problems to the
v8sho list was forwarded to shotimes list. What the heck WERE you doing (speedwise)
to get arrested on the spot?!? Hope everything turned out OK, for both you and
the car. Going to make it to the indiana convention? Would love to see a
supercharged gen3, and of course, it'd be nice to finally meet you in person as
well (we haven't met, have we? Don't recall you being at the past two
conventions I was at).

If you are in Southern California isn't that in the area of the SHO SHOP.
That would be the best place to start for your SHO mods. Check out their
website. I believe its http://www.shoshop.com
Howie
Well damn,
All I can say is that really sucks. I've never liked truckers anyway.
Rick
They don't like it much when you cruise that fast. Especially if they think
you have been ignoring them for 20 minutes. I honestly did not see anyone trying
to stop me. I got caught because I was low on fuel and had to make a pit stop.
That gas station will never forget...

I'm sorry, but this just has to be said.
Much over 100 MPH on almost ANY road in America save the desert interstates in
the west is WAY too fast.
I don't care if your car can handle it; I don't care if YOU can handle it. The
roads can't handle that speed, generally speaking, and the other drivers will be
TOTALLY unprepared for you.
Too many really bad drivers out there...you'll be on them like a hawk on a
mouse.
Slow down.
If you don't care whether you live or die, it's OK by me.
Really.
But at the speeds you must have been going, you can snuff out several innocent
human lives in an instant.
S.
P.S. Is this a hoax? Since when are there email privileges in jails?
If so, it sucks.
P.P.S. You didn't know they were trying to stop you for TWENTY MINUTES?
Saw no lights ? Heard no sirens?
You' ve gotta be dead from the neck up.
Really, man...check yourself out.
Truckers are people too. Here on this board, everyone has a slightly different take on things. Obviously, so did that trucker.
I almost got my CDL in '93, but went to back college instead. When I'm driving
in my SHO, I respect that the truckers drive for a living, while I drive to/from
my livelyhood. They put more miles on their vehicles in one year than some of
the SHO's on this have seen in their lifetime.
I'm sorry to hear about Tim. I know he would not have run that fast where there
was traffic, but we don't have all the details.
BTW, AutoZone had most of the hoses for my SHO. There were three they did not
have in stock included the lower radiator hose.
The last time I had my hoses done was in Jan '97 by Ford. They missed 4 hoses.
Dave
Could be me, but if you're not attentive enough to know that they're trying to stop you for 20 minutes then you have no business going that fast since you obviously cannot pay attention to your surroundings - let alone anticipate the actions of others....
Well, I guess it's time to stand down. I was getting ready to march on
Albuquerque and demand they "Free Tim" while vilifying the INS for
their heavy-handed tactics. Boy, how exciting would a nice blower set up be?

Mike,
Have done lot's of Jail Work (Rikers Island in NYC). They sued the city and know
have color TV with Cable, great Law Library access, and yes, the big WWW.

You mean you were not serious?

Darn, I wanted to see pictures.........
The ever gullible............. me
LOL it was funny, and for a minute I bought it until I read the email twice.....
!!
Richard
If he was sending an April-fools joke, he should have set his system up properly... :-)
Dave .
Don't worry. Once it was detected as a joke, we all had fun with it, although
a big fight over truckers ensued.
BTW, how does it run with the blower? Are you able to exceed the speed limiter
or have you gotten an LPM that bypasses it?
Dave .
